Yarriambiack Creekkeeper

The Yarriambiack Creek is a natural distributary of the Wimmera River with an off-take approximately 20 kms east of Horsham, flowing northwards, when it has water, though Warracknabeal, Brim and Beulah before disappearing in terminal lakes north of Hopetoun. The creek did once carry permanent water and is the reason that these towns were established.

Lately, water has been diverted into the Wimmera River, and the communities along the creek have united to advocate the return of their water. They want narrow bridges replaced so that water doesn’t inundate their agricultural land, they want their weir pools to be properly constructed and they want the water that will refresh the creek vegetation and bring back the water-life. In short, they want to have a voice in the management of their waterway.
