Santos, Australia’s third largest oil and gas company, recently announced that it had purchased the Patricia Baleen gas plant located on the banks of the Snowy River Estuary.
Santos’ managing director stated in his press release, ” The move to become the operator of the Patricia Baleen field and processing facilities will form a strong foundation asset for the development of the Sole gas field, as well as gas discoveries in neighboring blocks.”
The Sole Gas field is contaminated with hydrogen sulphide and will require the existing plant to be doubled in size and include a chemical refinery.
Clearly the existing location of the Gas Plant, on the banks of the estuary, surrounded by the Snowy River floodplain, is an absurd location to build a giant petro-chemical processing plant.
The Snowy River Estuarykeeper is actively campaigning for the relocation of the gas refinery away from the river and out of the floodplain.
