Avon Riverkeeper

We look after the Avon River, and we would like to work with others in this important task.

We were recently invited to address Year 9 students at Sale Catholic College at the request of the Geography Teacher Ms Julia Wake. President Peter Carroll spoke about the importance of river systems to human life, and at the same time the huge impact human life has had on some of the river systems around the world. The discussion then moved on to some of the human processes that would be impacting on the Avon river such as; weed infestation, loss of native species, chemical infiltration, excessive nutrients and over population.

We recently conducted a training day to help with knowledge and skills for eradication of Bridal Creeper, an imported weed (SouthAfrica) that is proliferating and has been observed within the Avon River Catchment.

Mal Hall a student at East Gippsland TAFE conducted a training session near Sale and demonstrated how rust infected Bridal Creeper is applied to healthy infestations to control and eliminate the spread of Bridal Creeper.
